How to host a virtual bake sale

If you’ve heard about virtual bake sales, and can’t figure out how it works, you’ve come to the right place!

As we’re still living with restrictions on social gatherings, many fundraising events have become virtual to allow them to take place and help raise vital money for charities.

Bake sales are no different and are still a great way to get your creative juices flowing, involve all members of your family, require very little training, and the fruits of your labour will be delicious!

So now it’s time to host your virtual bake sale!

There are two great options to consider

The ‘Special Delivery’ Bake Sale

Your local friends, family and neighbours can pre-order which delicious bakes they would like from you and you can then bake and safely deliver them in lunchboxes.

Leave your delicious cakes on the porch or outside the front door, then payment can then be made directly to your fundraising page. Alternatively, your donors could arrange to pop by your house and collect their cakes at a specific time.

The ‘Bake Along With Me’ Bake Sale

Choose your favourite cake and invite friends, family and colleagues to join a video call and bake along with you!

Share the ingredients they will need in advance and have fun baking together. Ask everyone taking part to donate to your fundraising page when they join and throughout the call.

Then, when your cake is cooking, enjoy a nice cup of tea and a catch-up and enjoy sampling your finished treats afterwards.

Combining these options would be a great way to make your fundraising a huge success!

Promote your bake sale

The best thing you can do is spread the word on your social media platforms!

Share on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to drum up interest. Tell your friends, family and neighbourhood WhatsApp groups and email your work colleagues. Include tantalising photos of your tasty treats – they won’t be able to resist!

Share you’re the date and time of your bake sale, explain how people can get involved, what’s on sale, and how all donations will help UK nurses, midwives & healthcare assistants in hardship.

Taking it the next level

Our top tip to really BOOST your fundraising is to live-stream your baking on Facebook Live or Instagram Live and ask people to donate as you bake. Viewers can follow your bake-along and join in with you, or they can just watch you create a majestic baking triumph – or share the fun of a slightly disastrous attempt!

Using social media to broadcast your bake will help you engage with a greater number of people who will be delighted to help support you nurses and midwives suffering hardship.

Final things to remember

  • Please always follow government guidelines around group sizes and social distancing. Feel free to take extra precautions, like more frequent hand washing, baking with a mask on and keeping spaces well ventilated.
  • Always keep to FSA guidelines when baking, which you can find here:
  • Please ensure you bake safely, especially if your children are involved.
  • Please be aware, donations made in return for cake are not eligible for Gift Aid.
