Neonatal Consultant Nurse Jo Colliver from Gloucestershire Royal Hospital has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Katy Murphy, Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and colleague explains why Jo is a worthy winner,
“Jo plays a pivotal role in improving neonatal services within Gloucestershire for preterm and sick infants and their families.
“Jo is the nurse lead for neonatal palliative and bereavement care within the Neonatal Unit. Her emphasis has been on ensuring that parents and families can build positive memories with their infants that will last a life time.
“She has taken a lead role on introducing clinical care bundles into the Neonatal Unit. For example, the Periprem Project, which aims to improve outcomes in preterm babies across the South West. Another example is taking a lead in the Trusts MatNeo Collaborative, which is a three year programme aimed at improving maternal and infant health.
“She has also taken a lead role in ensuring the Trust is involved in neonatal research trials. Recently, for example, she facilitated the Gloucester involvement in the NEOclear Trial which seeks to identify optimum technique for doing lumbar punctures in infants. Additionally she collates local data for the Vermont Oxford Network, a data – driven international collaborative that seeks to improve neonatal care throughout the world.
“Jo is a Newborn Life Support (NLS) Instructor for the UK Resuscitation Council and helps to provide mandatory training in newborn life support for medical staff, nurses and midwives.
“She is an advocate for her patients and families and goes above and beyond on a daily basis. She is very deserving of this award.”
