Ward Sister Jess Confaloni has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues at Gloucester Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Jess was promoted to a Senior Sister role just before the Covid-19 pandemic started. Lead nurse Philip Lort explains why she is a worthy winner,
“During a recent NAAS assessment, I was witness to outstanding compassionate leadership from Jess. As staff arrived she greeted each one individually and asked after their wellbeing, highlighting any known stressors or issues that may have affected them recently.
“She did the same for the staff that were finishing. Every member of staff was given the same courtesy and opportunity to be listened to. Her behaviour had a authenticity to it and didn’t feel like it was “what should be done”. Her understanding of the importance of compassionate leadership was obvious and well played out.”
