Cathy works as a Community Mental Health Nurse for Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust which provides specialist mental health treatment and support across Liverpool and Sefton.
“I thrive in my role at Mersey Care, I love it!” says Cathy “I’m part of an amazing team of NHS nurses who always strive for the best outcomes, the wellbeing and safety of our patients is our absolute priority. Each day brings a different challenge, it’s never boring!”
“We work towards small and long term goals with people” explains Cathy “we signpost them for additional support to the likes of Talk Liverpool and Life Rooms, this engages the service user and provides a wider network of support so they’re provided with a wider range of opportunities.”
Cathy was nominated by her team for a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients and her positivity and support with her peers.
Psychiatrist and colleague Dr Helen Pears added, “Cathy is an excellent nurse, she is always cheerful and supportive to her patients and colleagues. During the COVID outbreak Cathy’s energy, generosity and skill have been fantastic to see, she has really stepped up to the challenge.
“She has reorganised our depot clinic to be delivered at home so as to allow vulnerable patients to remain safely in their homes whilst receiving the medications they need to keep their mental health stable. She has kept the needs of others in the team in mind the whole time. She even saved me a facemask so I could see a patient in need safely! Her patients love her. She is always thanking her colleagues and fully deserves huge thanks herself.”
Cathy’s colleague Conner McNamara also won a Cavell Star Award. Cathy reacted to winning her award,
“It was a really big surprise! It’s lovely to be recognised for the hard work you do and feel valued, especially in the last few months with the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s also lovely to share it with my family, I’m very proud!
“My team are a great support to me and each other. We all go above and beyond and have very high standards. We all have a very ‘can-do’ attitude and there’s always a good sense of togetherness.”
