The ophthalmology team at Kettering General Hospital has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for their patients during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Matron and colleague Arnold Aguilar explains why he nominated the 54-strong team for the award,
“The Covid-19 pandemic was placing huge pressure on the ability of our Trust to deliver safe, high-quality care due to minimum short staffing levels in other areas. This meant we had to redeploy the Ophthalmology team to other areas such as critical care, infection control, paediatrics, medical and surgical wards and that includes the Covid ward. The Head of Nursing for Surgery and I were so pleased because none of them refused or complained when we asked them to work in other areas. As a Matron, I am so proud of their dedication, resilience, cooperation and support to their NHS colleagues and Kettering General Hospital as a whole during these difficult times.”
