Pleural Specialist Nurse Sarah has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Ward Sister and colleague Zoe Kinsey explains why Sarah was nominated for her award,
“Sarah is so full of enthusiasm and passion for the work she does, it is so refreshing and infectious for our ward staff.
“Sarah has been pioneering in new trials for our pleural patients, running the IPC Plus pathway, which reduces the amount of inpatient activity so that patients can have interventions as outpatients. She is always at the end of the phone for staff and her patients to give emotional and practical support, for troubleshooting and for signposting.
“She does SO MUCH for the ward & for her patients, she really does the work of 3 people! I have been in clinic appointments where Sarah has been on the patient’s journey from start to finish and to see the results that she has processed is outstanding. One patient, in particular, was about to be ‘discharged’ as her chest drain wound had closed finally after months and months of hard work and set backs. The patient and her husband were very emotional and thankful about the support Sarah had provided.
“Sarah really is ‘one of a kind’ and Ward 29 are SO lucky to have her. The patients always have Sarah’s full, unwavering support, guidance and clinical expertise and Sarah delivers patient care with such an empathetic, passionate and creative approach. I cannot thank Sarah enough for what she brings to the ward and our patients.”
