Healthcare Assistant Tomasz Cejrowski has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for his patients at Cheltenham General Hospital.
Colleague and nurse Kirsty England explains why Tomasz is such a worthy winner,
“We are lucky that Lilleybrook ward has access to a garden and Tom has selflessly and tirelessly put in extensive effort in purchasing flowers and maintaining the beauty of this area. He sanded and painted all the benches also to brighten the area, all of which he does in his own time, regularly maintaining and looking at ways to improve. This garden not only contributes to the wellbeing of our patients but also for our staff, an area for all to escape the hospital environment. Patients always comment on how lucky they feel to either be able to look out onto this garden or sit out in the fresh air.
“Tom is always attentive to patients needs and happy to help wherever he can. If he does not have the answers himself to questions he will find out or signpost to the right person. If he has had to delegate a task, he will follow this up and ensure it has been undertaken. He is an advocate for his patients. Not only is he passionate within his role for Oncology but is always willing to gain experience and look after patients in other specialities. He often works extra bank shifts all over the hospital and when the pandemic hit, he was one of the first to offer to move and work on a Covid ward which understandably many were fearful to opt in for in such an uncertain circumstance. He is a true advocate of our trusts values and an inspiration to us all and I hope this nomination reflects this and does his service justice.”
