Paediatric Healthcare support worker Maxine Emmonds from Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Colleague and ICAN clinical Team Leader Gail Greenwood explains why Maxine is such a worthy winner,
“Maxine makes her patients a priority and is prepared to meet their needs for them in the best way possible. Maxine looks for ways to improve how things are done to continuously deliver improvements, example being ‘play’ is such a valuable avenue for the children accessing our clinics and Maxine helped to secure charitable funding to finance new environmentally friendly play equipment to make the clinic environment welcoming and child friendly to our patients.
“She looks at positive solutions to tackle difficult problems in that during the covid-19 pandemic our service was stretched and despite many challenges Maxine found ways to make the clinic accessible to the diverse range of families who use it with a real sense of commitment and enjoyment. She takes her responsibility as a health care support worker with such pride, keeps her promises, ensures high standards are maintained example being our recent infection control inspection was highly commended and Maxine was an integral part of ensuring this was achieved. Maxine is so deserving of this award.”
Maxine reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award,
“I feel so privileged and honoured to be recognised for this award after only been in the NHS for 5 years. it’s an amazing feeling to know that the job you love doing, day in and day out is being appreciated and recognised. It’s the most rewarding job role ever, it inspires me and drives to be the best I can be for my patients and team.
“Our ICAN team is more like family and they are all amazing. I really wouldn’t be able to do this without the support, guidance and resilience, from our strong ICAN Nursing team. The doctors, nurses and support workers make it possible to achieve the standard of care we give to our patients and families that come through our clinic doors daily. We all have our arms wrapped around these families to help in any way we can. It’s the best feeling knowing at the end of the day we have done our best to support our families.”
