Head of Nursing Susan Ievers and her nurses in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service from Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust have won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for their colleagues.
Kathryn Currah, nurse advisor in the NHS England national nursing team, explains why Susan and the team are worthy winners,
“Within NHS England we have been developing a framework to support paediatric nurses working in acute settings with children and young people presenting with mental health distress, we are keen to change the culture of mental health being seen separately to physical health and build a consensus of “our” child.
“Sheffield Child and Adolescent mental health team have shown huge commitment to supporting their paediatric colleagues, supporting with individual cases, offering training and education and the ethos of the collaboration between the services has been showcased in many forums and has then helped support other services to follow their excellent role modelling behaviours.”
