Christine Verity, a Health Visitor from the Bury Community Health Visiting and School Nursing Team has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Colleague and Divisional Director of Nursing Wendy Parker explains why Christine is such a worthy winner,
“Christine is trained as a special needs Health Visitor and ensures that families who are struggling who can’t get transport and need financial help are not taken advantage of and is a true advocate for these vulnerable families. Her work with special needs children/families is just the one aspect of this special lady’s role. Chris also works with these families via a charity, in her own time, called “First Point”. Chris undertakes evening and weekend sessions with families on all the aspects that parent struggle with having children with special needs including feeding, toilet training, sleep hygiene. Chris counsels the parents as well, so they receive a full holistic package of care.
“Everyday, Chris makes a significant contribution to the delivery of safe, high quality care which reduces harm and improves outcomes for children and families with lots of examples which I have been witnessed to, when all Chris’s hard work has kept children and families together when they might otherwise have been removed from parents. It would be a lovely ending to a distinguished career spanning 50 years and I would be so very proud to be able to present Chris with a Cavell Star Award.
“Thankyou for your consideration of this very special lady.”
Christine reacted to winning her award,
“I am both honoured and so proud to have the Cavell Star Award and to have heard the many lovely testimonials spoken about me, personally and professionally about my work and commitment to the NHS over the last 50 years and to Bury community for 25 years.
“It was so special to meet up with the many friends, colleagues, and with Pam Nuttall my PWT, now retired, to be amongst members from multi – agency teams and those from members of the voluntary services with whom I have worked closely with over the last few years, helping parents of children with disabilities and complex needs to maximise their child’s potential. I feel so proud to be a highly motivated member of the community health visiting staff in Bury.
“Thank you seems a small way of expressing my huge appreciation to all at Cavell and Bury Community Health Visiting and School Nursing Teams, but it is so deeply and truly meant. I shall wear my Cavell Star Award badge with great pride!”
