Community Staff Nurse Kay Richardson from Keyworth Primary Care centre has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Nicola Zuarwliw, Head of Adult Services, explains why Kay is such a worthy winner,
“In April this year Kay was awarded a 12 month secondment to solely focus on the Level 1 continence clinic. Prior to her appointment, the growing waiting list was a quality concern, not good for patient quality and the service was receiving complaints of unhappy patients and primary care colleagues.
“Kay has worked tremendously hard, streamlining the service offer, working in collaboration with clinical admin staff to ensure the processes are slick, effective and timely offer of appointments is made. A recent audit from our specialist team lead for bladder and bowel care, demonstrated outstanding evidenced based care is being provided and she is receiving some exceptional patient feedback, there was nothing that required improvement.
“Kay has demonstrated the value, worth and dedication needed to ensure continence care is provided robustly, the role is now being made permanent, and we are showcasing the way of working to other teams and a long term plan for the model to be adopted across our organisation.
“We are extremely proud of the work she has been undertaking, and would like her to be formally recognised for her efforts, she is the pinnacle of a community nurse and is only going to develop further into her career passion of a specialist balder and bowel nurse.”
Kay reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award,
“I was blown away that I had been not only nominated but won this prestigious award. I feel every day in my role that I’m rewarded by the lovely outcomes and feedback I get from my patients in clinic. I am honoured that my colleagues nominated me and that my work is recognised, which is such a privilege.”
