Deputy Lead Nurse Professional & Practice Development Kath Hulkorey from University Hospitals of Derby and Burton has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues.
Jessica Fearn, Senior Clinical Educator and colleague explains why Kath is such a worthy winner.
“Kath is the most amazing, supportive, inclusive and compassionate leader in the NHS you could wish for. Daily she demonstrates these strengths with the team allowing them to develop, grow and bring their “whole self” to work. She understands each of her team members and stretches us to develop in our own leadership style. Kath is always available for help and support and acts as a mentor and a coach daily. The team performs highly under her tutorage and we feel blessed every day to have her as a manager. She encourages us to seek out learning opportunities and grow our team. We enjoy coming to work and working underneath such a truly kind and inspirational leader. Thank you Kath for all you do!”
Kath reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award.
“To be put forward for the award is one thing, but to hear from colleagues about the contribution I’ve made to their professional journeys means so much to me. It’s so lovely to be acknowledged in this way. I’ve been working at this organisation and the NHS for a long time, so I know this doesn’t happen every day.
“My team make me so proud, I hope they find my accessibility, encouragement and coaching style enables them to bring forward ideas, test them, celebrate their successes and learn when things don’t go so well, their passion to improve the experience of patients through the support they give to colleagues across the trust is paramount.”
