Celebrating Aldrin

Clinical Nurse Specialist Aldrin Soriano from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for his patients.

Colleague and Senior Charge Nurse Simon Gulliver explained why Aldrin is such a worthy winner.

“Aldrin’s dedication and effort has contributed to tangible improvements in healthcare delivery. The NOPAC pathway (NO Pre-Assessment Clinic) was developed and then launched at the end of June 2023 in collaboration by Aldrin and his team. Data analysis reveals that over the first 5 months, 34 patients referred to the NOPAC pathway experienced an average Referral to Treatment Time (RTT) of 16.5 days, compared to 61.87 days for 46 patients on the non-NOPAC pathway. This promising outcome is poised to positively influence disease progression among our patients, enhance patient satisfaction, and further advance our efforts towards achieving the 2-week wait target for vascular procedures.

“The NOPAC initiative exemplifies Aldrin’s commitment to enhancing patient care by optimizing processes and reducing unnecessary delays in treatment. Through effective collaboration between vascular surgery, interventional radiology, and other healthcare professionals, he’s successfully implemented a streamlined pathway that not only improves patient outcomes but also reflects our dedication to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.”

Aldrin reacted to wining his Cavell Star Award.

“It’s incredible that my colleagues recognise the value of the work that I do. I always strive to do my best for my patients and my team, so having been celebrated for something that I do at work daily was both surprising and fulfilling. This felt like icing on a cake and it’s inspired me to continue to go that extra mile for the individuals that I look after.

“I adore working with people and in my nursing role, I work with patients and collaborate with other members of the MDT to facilitate patient safety peri-operatively. It makes me proud doing the job that I do as I am able to prevent potential patient harm and mitigate risks that lead to procedure/treatment delays and cancellation.

“My team means the world to me as they’re an unwavering source of support not only during the span of this project, but more importantly, in work and life as a whole.”
