Celebrating Clare

Clare Lewis from The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS FT has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.

The student Nursing Associate was praised by her colleague and Chief Nurse Paul Kavanagh-Fields.

“The student Nursing Associate apprenticeship opportunity provides a gateway to nursing and Clare always wanted to be a Nurse. She said ‘It was as if the stars aligned’ as her youngest son was starting secondary school. So she applied for the training course and got a place.

She has suffered from ill health in the past and feels that her experience enables her to show empathy towards patients when they are destressed, frightened and in fear of the unknown. Clare’s aspiration is to continue to provide care to patients in the perioperative setting and she would be interested in specialising in Anaesthetic Nursing.

Recently a patient provided feedback about Clare saying:

“I tried to hold back tears and not worry, and an incredible theatre nurse called Claire, gripped on my hand, and said with the most genuine caring voice, ” You’ve got this. I’ve got you and I’m right next to you”. In truth had she not cared so much about me, with such great heart and professionalism, at that point I was contemplating seriously making good my escape.”
