Healthcare assistant Paris Smith from Weston House Practice has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues. Nurse Lead and colleague Claire Dixon explains why Paris is such a deserving winner.
“Paris moved to General practice 18 months ago, after completing her apprenticeship in oncology. She has been a huge and valuable asset to our team and always goes the extra mile! She has developed her skills over this time and is worker at a higher level. Paris supports the Practice nurses with immunisation, managing long term conditions, as well as developing her role in treatment room sessions.
“We are one of the biggest practices in the area and have a large caseload of housebound and care homes residents. Paris has used her initiative and transformed our process managing this vulnerable group. She has meticulously reviewed every patients needs and assigned the most appropriate clinician to visit. Paris now has plans to improve our care home long term condition reviews, to make the service more efficient for our team and the patients.
“We are understaffed as many practices are, but Paris has the initiative and motivation to support the wider practice team in managing this vulnerable group and I do feel she deserves recognition. Paris is caring and has a good relationship with her patients and all staff within the practice. I can’t sing her praises enough and we are all so glad she is part of our wonderful team!”
Paris reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award.
“I am very much overwhelmed and grateful for the award! I love that I can make a real difference in my role and I am always learning and love my job. We have a very close-knit team and we all work together to make a difference for our patients. I could not excel in my job without my nursing team’s support.”
