Celebrating Gaynor

Allergy Nurse Specialist Gaynor Shakesheff, recently retired from University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues over her long career.

Colleague and Children’s Allergy Nurse Michele Swan explained why Gaynor is such a worthy winner.

“We feel incredibly fortunate to have Gaynor as our colleague, her support and kindness has made a world of difference to our team, and all those that have had the pleasure of working alongside her. We recognise Gaynor for going above and beyond, as an allergy nurse specialist, from the late night phone calls to worried parents, to writing letters so children can fly with their emergency medicine tomorrow!

“Gaynor has mentored us as a team, sharing her knowledge and experience freely, inspiring us to thrive for the best in our practice. We have seen first hand how important information is delivered in a calm and sensitive way to our children and families. This Cavell Star Award is ‘the icing on the cake’ as we bid farewell to our wonderful colleague and friend, sending our congratulations on her retirement.”

Gaynor reacted to being celebrated by her team.

“I was so delighted to win my Cavell Star Award! I was amazed to be nominated by my colleagues and it felt wonderful to be so appreciated. I have loved everything about my nursing role, the patients, their families and of course I’ve worked with amazing colleagues. My team are the best and I consider myself lucky to work with such fantastic people.”
