Five nurses working for the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) have won Cavell Star Awards for going above and beyond for their colleagues, patients and their families.
Laura Trevor, a SEND Health Visitor was nominated by colleague Petra Hayes-Bower. “Laura is committed to reduce the significant health inequalities children with SEND face. She is trained in neurodevelopmental conditions, communication needs, and family-centred care and takes every opportunity to support the development of her colleagues and share any knowledge she has.”
Petra, Assistant Director of Children’s Community Services, is herself a Cavell Star Award winner and was nominated by Director of Nursing Wendy Parker. “Petra is a true advocate for children and families in Bury and we are very proud to call her one of our STAR nurses. She very much deserves a wonderful Cavell Star Award for always going the extra mile to improve care for the population she serves and for always being kind and compassionate to children and their families, as well as her colleagues.”
Paediatric Epilepsy Specialist Nurse Michael Donohoe was the third Cavell Star Award winner and was nominated by colleague and Lead Nurse Natalie Cohen. “Michael has designed the Bury community service around the needs of the young people and their families providing face to face, virtual, telephone clinics as well as home visits dependent on the young persons needs and preferences. He has worked alongside local consultants across multiple sites to enable him to advocate for the young people and families. Michael offers advice, guidance and supervision to his community nursing colleagues but also to wider services in special schools and school nursing. Nothing is too much trouble for Michael and he has been an absolute asset to the service.”
Winner Alison Mole, a Patient Flow Nurse, was nominated by Katy Alcock, Senior Directorate Manager of Integrated Care at NCA. “Alison uses all her nursing knowledge and communication skills to support colleagues, across many teams from a wide range of wards and community services, to coordinate safe and effective discharge. She is a fantastic source of knowledge, support and reassurance for other nurses, particularly those who may not have the same experience of discharge and complex care.”
Alison Davis, A Health Visitor, was nominated by Lead Nurse Karen Davies-Linihan. “Alison is an asset to the team who turn to her for knowledge and experience but also her creativity in finding solutions. She is supportive to the team, providing emotional support and willing to help in any way she can on a “difficult” day. Her personality shines through in everything she does and her “can do” attitude provides a real morale boost to the team. Alison deserves to be recognised for the hard work, dedication and commitment she shows to all the babies, young children and their wider families.”
Wendy Parker, Director of Nursing spoke about the pride felt by the NCA team. “We are so very proud of all our nurses receiving Cavell Star Awards. They all demonstrate the NCA values of Care, Appreciation and Inspiration every day and go above and beyond in the care and support they provide to children, families and colleagues in Bury. Very well deserved.”
