Emergency Department Senior Sister Tina Taylor from Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues.
Grace Blows, ED Sister and colleague, explains why Tina is such a deserving winner.
“Tina is an exceptional person and an exceptional nurse. She has a wealth of knowledge and information and can organise any team. Known for her loud Irish accent and one liners, Tina brings joy to even the hardest of shifts!
“Tina consistently puts the welfare of her team before her own and appears to almost have superpowers in the way she co-ordinates the most chaotic of emergency departments, always with a smile and a laugh. Tina has a great and appreciated maternal flare, most recently even taking home a long-stayers washing and returning it to her, just so it would help her feel a little bit better.
“She stands up for what’s right and is not simply ‘by the book’. She delivers personalised and exceptional care to all her patients and proves a great role model for all junior staff members. We must appreciate and award people like Tina, she makes the patients days as well as ours and we are so grateful to have her at Epsom Hospital Emergency Department.”
Tina reacted to winning her award.
“I am so overwhelmed that I was nominated by my colleagues. I honestly come to work everyday and only do my job. It is how I have always worked and I will continue to do so but it does make me very proud to know that the staff I work with appreciate what I do and feel supported.
“I have worked with a lot of amazing people through out my nursing career and I have so much respect and admiration for the work they all do. The team I am with at present come to work everyday in ED and know it will be a challenge but they carry out their duty always working with care and compassion and I feel exceptionally proud to work along side everyone of them.”
