Deputy Chief Nurse Clare McAdam from Devon Partnership NHS Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Chief Nurse Hazel Powell explains why Clare is such a deserving winner.
“Clare is an exceptional mental health nurse who embodies the best of nursing- compassion, courage and commitment to improving care for patients and staff alike. She leads authentically with humility and purpose creating an environment where people feel seen, supported and inspired to deliver their best. Her leadership is felt not through hierarchy but through presence she listens deeply, connects personally and ensures every voice counts.
“Her approach combines high standards with genuine care, challenging others to grow, whilst always standing alongside them. She never seeks recognition but her impact is everywhere, in the confidence of others she has mentored, the quality improvements she has driven and the compassion she shows everyday. She doesn’t just lead nursing she lifts nursing!”
Clare reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award.
“I feel really humbled by the award and delighted too. For me nursing is always a team effort, we are stronger together whether as nurses or as part of a multidisciplinary team. I work best, supporting, enabling and developing other nurses as well as learning from colleagues, we work more productively, efficiently as a collaborative nursing team. After 40+ years I have continued to learn, grow & develop in my roles, that is the infectiousness of energy & enthusiasm for the role I am in.
