Alana Foster, Area Service Manager and Healthcare Assistant for North West Care in Northern Ireland, has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Training Officer and colleague Gerard Casey explains why Alana is such a worthy winner,
“Alana has been so amazing especially over this pandemic and has taken each day in her stride when staff continued to phone in ill. She worked exceptionally long hours to make sure all the patients in her area got covered, this meant sometimes dropping everything to go to some patients as she was so aware that they where so reliant on that call.
“She has gone days without a break just to maintain the high quality of care to her patients. Just last week when she was so sick and really should have been at home she was in the office making sure that rotas where complete and leading from the front she is an absolute inspiration to every healthcare assistant under her care. Our patients just can’t speak highly enough of Alana.
“The staff that work with Alana feel that her door is always open and is so willing to help. She has worked most of Christmas making sure patients have got there calls due to the high numbers suffering with Covid-19, meaning even less time being able to be spent with her own family. When our Manager was off with Covid Alana stepped in and kept everything running holding the Emergency phone for weeks on end just to be able to help in any way she could.”
