Celebrating Anupa

Practice Facilitator and nurse Anupa Yonzon from George Eliot Hospital has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues.

Colleague Wilfredo Vitao explained why Anupa was a worthy winner of a Cavell Star Award.

“From the moment Anupa stepped into her role, she has consistently exceeded expectations in supporting our internationally educated nurses (IENs) as they prepare for their test of competence. Anupa’s commitment is exemplified by her willingness to accompany a cohort during their exam, even outside her normal work hours. Her presence provided essential moral support, boosting their confidence and ensuring they felt supported at every stage.

“Anupa’s innovative approach to education is truly remarkable. She took the initiative to create flashcards specifically designed to help IENs prepare for the written stations of their OSCE. These flashcards have become an invaluable resource, significantly enhancing our nurses’ preparedness and confidence.

“In addition to her support for IENs, Anupa has made significant contributions to developing essential resources for our staff. She led the development of a resource pack to guide IENs and preceptees through the process of completing incident reports, an area where many new starters need extra support.”

Anupa reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award.

“Being recognised by my colleagues for what I am doing is incredibly humbling and would like to thank Wilfredo for nominating me. It is an honour to know that my dedication has made an impact. Supporting international nurses throughout their NMC-OSCE program has been particularly beautiful and fulfilling experience for me. This recognition motivates me to continue striving for excellence and supporting my colleagues.

“To me my team is a strong support system, they are like my second family and we rely on each other for professional and emotional support.”
