Carol Ann Nassau, a healthcare assistant from James Cook University Hospital, has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues.
Nursing Sister and colleague Karen Coxon explains why Carol Ann is such a worthy winner,
“Carol Ann has worked in Paediatric Critical care for a number of years, over this time she has become an indispensable member of the team. Her knowledge around the equipment used in the care of children requiring intensive and high dependency care is extensive.
“As well as facilitating training for nursing staff Carol Ann has faced the challenge of supporting Health Care Assistants who are new to the unit. Historically the unit has functioned with minimal HCAs and as such their role is very different to that of the role in a ward based setting, due to this there has been a high turnover.
“Carol Ann ensures that there is an appropriate level of stock within the department to facilitate care to a high standard and is always up for a challenge, as we no longer have a designated administrator she has been keen to learn and ensure that this side of patient care isn’t neglected. Carol Ann is a versatile member of the team and as a colleague words are not enough to thank her for the work she carries out.
She is not just a Health Care Assistant, she has knowledge and skills that extends well beyond that of the Health Care Assistant role and without her the unit would not function as efficiently.”
Carol Ann reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award,
“I was so honoured to have won this award and to know that my colleagues think of me with such appreciation and respect.”
