Nurse Manager Daryl Birch from St Andrews Healthcare has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for his colleagues.
Colleague and Head of Nursing Jennifer Mytton explains why Daryl is such a worthy winner,
“Daryl is one of those people who brightens everybody’s day! We work in an extremely complex inpatient forensic mental health setting and Daryl always manages to balance the professionalism and light heartedness that makes everyone smile.
“He is also an extremely effective and passionate nurse and leads his nursing team forwards with a inquisitive and creative mind. If there’s something that seems impossible due to building or security restrictions, Daryl and his team will find a creative way to make this possible whilst ensuring everyone safety.
“Daryl has fought since his position on Fern Ward as Nurse Manager to create a homely, comfortable and engaging space for the people we care for. He has managed to create a kitchenette to allow independent cooking, a games room with access to IT and games consoles, as well as a pool table on the ward and planters in the courtyard.
“Daryl is someone everyone wants to be around!”
