Matron Emma Gray from Sunderland Royal Hospital, part of South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Trust, has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues.
Head of Nursing and colleague Barbara Goodfellow explains why Emma is such a worthy winner,
“Emma is a newly appointed Matron coming into post during the Pandemic. She has had a very challenging year personally and in spite of this has lead her teams positively coming in on planned days off when we have had to move teams due to operational pressures, to support the ward managers emotionally and practically.
“Additionally she has supported her peers encouraging a collective and cohesive approach to managing safe care and a challenging sometimes fixed views. Emma has been asked to work in Emergency care, in medicine and across both sites over the last 12 months and has been flexible and resilient inspiring others to respond positively to change.”
