Premature Prevention Specialist Midwives Helen Wright and Grace Lewis from University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust have won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for their patients.
Colleague and Director of Midwifery Danni Burnett explained why Helen and Grace are deserving winners.
“Helen and Grace are the gel that brings our preterm team together at UHL. They go above and beyond for their patients each and every day. From staying late or seeing patients on their day off they excel at providing excellent patient care.
“They appraised the evidence on the psychological impact to families of preterm prelabour rupture of membranes due to the inherent risks of this to both the mother and baby. They have set up a clinic for these families to both support them with and keep them safer. This continuity of care has been instrumental in helping families get through this difficult time. They are there right to the end, despite the outcome for the family. The joint mail box is full of patients thanking them.”

Helen and Grace reacted to winning their Cavell Star Award.
“We were both so surprised,” said Helen. “It’s a real privilege to receive this award, especially when we work with such an incredible team and care for such amazing women and families.”
“Our job is incredibly rewarding,” added Grace.
