Clinical Practice Educator and nurse Jane Thompson from Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Colleague and Deputy Divisional Director of Nursing Karen Hathway explains why Jane is such a worth winner,
“Jane is a Clinical Practice Educator and has worked as a nurse in the NHS for 52 years. During this time she has never lost her dedication and enthusiasm to care for patients, ensuring they have the best experience possible.
“She has a wealth of experience, originally working in a Paediatric Cardio-thoracic unit and then moving to adult Intensive Care nursing and later general nursing. Jane is reliable, flexible and is an excellent role model, all attributes which are crucial when working as a Clinical Practice Educator developing Post-registration Nurses.
“Jane constantly goes over and above on a daily basis and feedback from all nursing staff is that she offers constant support, valued opinion and good counsel.
“In the face of Covid, Jane offered to be redeployed to Intensive Care to support and work with her colleagues, providing education, high level training and pastoral care which was valued by everyone.
“Jane has dedicated her life to nursing and our division is so grateful for the expertise and wisdom that she shares every day that she comes to work.”
Jane reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award,
“It was a massive shock for me! It was a huge honour to be recognised by my colleagues. I feel I’m just doing my job each day as I believe in doing my duty and putting patients first.
“I feel in an incredibly privileged position to be a nurse and to have nursed for so many years. I love sharing knowledge and skills with others and improving the care we give, making a difference to people’s lives.
“My team colleagues mean everything to me, they are the best team I’ve ever worked with! I couldn’t do my job without them!”
