Registered nurse and Manager Jayne Adamson from Millbrow Care Home has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Karen Graham, Principal Manager and colleague explains why Jayne deserves her award.
“Jayne has grown as a leader in the last few years and remains focused on person-centred care and support for her residents. There are many examples of Jayne going above and beyond for the the residents in her care. For example,
“A resident was referred to Jayne looking for a dementia placement and Jayne visited the lady in hospital and assessed her as having capacity. The lady was displaying actions which others found challenging so Jayne asked the social worker and ward to map out behaviours. The charts showed that the behaviours may have been an indication of pain. A scan showed she had a fracture, which the hospital treated. Jayne worked with the GP and later life memory service and with a change to medication and a revised plan of care, the lady became much more settled and pain free and is now able to get out of bed and enjoy her time in a general nursing setting.”
Jayne reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award.
“I got my first job as a nurse in the setting I am in now over 10 years ago and I have stayed here as care homes are my passion! I enjoy getting to know the residents, relatives and staff and work with them all to ensure the best outcome for the residents.
“To find out I was a Cavell Star Award winner was unexpected and such a privilege, I was over the moon! It’s lovely to see that care home nursing staff are recognised for the brilliant work we all do, day in day out, often under different pressures. Working as part of a team is so important and I am really proud of the team I work with. It’s lovely to see that we all share the same passion and commitment to providing safe, person-centred care to the resident’s and families we support.”
