Dementia Specialist Practitioner and nurse Jayne-Ann Davies from North Bristol NHS Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients’ families.
Colleague and Matron Janette O’Neill explains why Jayne is such a deserving winner.
“Jayne has developed and implemented the dementia training tiers for North Bristol Trust and has recently updated this and implemented a delirium training eLearning package. This is the academic side of the job but has been so impactful due to the real life experience and front-facing nature of Jayne’s role. She uses the experiences of Carers who support our patients with dementia both in hospital and at home. She is able to capture this through her excellent listening, empathetic approaches and compassion.
“Jayne is an advocate for Carers and this can include our own staff group. She makes time to interact and follow up and from personal experience I know this often includes going the extra mile. She is quiet and many of these skills and communications go under the radar but provide the basis for a high-quality standard of care for our patients, colleagues and our Carers.
“Jayne has a wealth of knowledge and experience and this is particularly pertinent because this year she will have worked for the NHS for 40 years! This is an amazing achievement and long may it continue.”
Jayne reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award.
“It was a very humbling and proud moment to be given the Cavell Star Award especially as it coincided with celebrating 40 years of being a nurse in the NHS. Everyday is different challenges and expectations and I find nursing very fulfilling and it allows me to explore my complete skill set on a daily basis.
“My nursing team are amazing! I feel so supported and recognised for the job I do.”
