Jeanette Welsh and Ron Sunga from Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have become Cavell Star Award winners for going above and beyond for their colleagues and patients’ families.
Jeanette, Lead Nurse for Adult Safeguarding won her award for exceptional leadership as Deputy Chief Nurse Carole Webster explains,
“Due to the impacts of COVID Jeanette has ensured that the safeguarding service continued to support all clinical areas, offering an adhoc on call service to check staff were supported out of hours. Jeanette developed an online webinar education programme as she wasn’t able to provide face to face, which to date has provided Mental Capacity Training for over 200 staff and has been recognised in the organisation as leading the way for webinar training.
“Jeanette’s provided clinical support through regular visiting of ward areas, also providing bite size training and engagement of staff. She has provided exceptional support to her team, through visibility and flexibility of hours. Jeanette continuously strives to support both direct care givers and managers across the organisation to manage and identify issues as early as possible visiting areas across both sites and spending time with staff to understand issues and support the staff.”
Children’s Nurse Ron Sunga won his Cavell Star Award for his high standards of care and communication skills. Colleague and matron Claire Powell explains,
“Ron is a valued member of our team he is always professional, reliable and has a friendly, positive manner with everyone. He is conscientious, always cheerful and goes above and beyond with children and young people. We recently received feedback from a patient’s family regarding his calm manner and efficient care that he provided for their child in what was a highly sensitive and emotional time for them as their child had presented with an injury and was extremely distressed.
“I am very proud to have him on my team.”
