Clinical Nurse Specialist Jenny Hull from St Richard’s Hospice has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Colleague and Team Leader Maria Kavanagh explains why Jenny is such a worthy winner.
“Jenny talks to patients at a vulnerable time in their lives when they have received a diagnosis of a palliative condition. Many are frightened, anxious and entering the unknown. She talks to them with compassion and empathy and gives them time to explore their thoughts and feelings in a non-judgmental way.
“She is a consummate professional and always aims to provide the best care, by the right people when the patient and family need it. Jenny has high standards of care that she expects from everyone and she supports a helpline where people call in times of crisis. Her calm manner is reassuring and she always fulfils her promises to patients.”
Jenny reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award.
“I was truly amazed to be nominated and it brought a tear to my eye. I have only ever thought I was just doing my job.
“I work with an incredible team. We share our knowledge, always feel able to admit if we don’t know the answer to something and know that a colleague will help. We are kind to each other and give an excellent service to patients and their families. I still look forward to going to work each day.
“Even though I qualified in 1976 I never tire of feeling that buzz when you have helped someone and they are so grateful that you have taken the time to listen and support them.”
