Clinical Matron Jomar Alex from Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for his colleagues.
Colleague and Director of Nursing Dionne Daniel explains why Jomar is a worthy winner.
“Jomar is a fairly new Clinical Matron and has set the standards for the areas that he looks after. There were challenges on the wards and Jomar was proactive addressing these issues with the team which has improved patient experience. Both areas have achieved silver status for their first ward accreditation which is no easy feat.
“He is comfortable with what is needed to make the changes and both areas are now well run and staff are happy and this reflects on patient experience. He is always willing to learn and support his team to learn from any challenges and issues. He leads by example and is prepared to roll his sleeves up and get involved.
“I have been very impressed with Jomar’s journey so far and I know that he will continue to excel.”
Jomar reacted to winning his Cavell Star Award.
“The Cavell Star Award has encouraged me to be a role model and influence others to achieve their goal as a nurse and deliver of high standard care. My nursing team is close to my heart and we treat each other like a second family. And work is our second home where we can find refuge to nurture our skills, knowledge and attitude towards nursing.”
