Celebrating Julie

Julie Bamford, a Diana Community Children’s Nurse from Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.

Colleague and Palliative Care Lead Nurse Julie Potts explains why Julie is such a worthy winner.

“Julie is truly a one-off nurse. Affectionately known—and proudly self-titled—as “Super Nurse Julie,” she shares this spirit of positivity, humour, and reassurance with every child, family, and colleague she encounters.

“Julie has served as a nurse for many years and has been an integral member of the Community Children’s Nursing Diana Service for 13 years. Her caring nature, warmth, and remarkable commitment ensure that children receive compassionate, high-quality care, often enabling them to remain at home and avoid long hospital admissions. Julie is immensely proud of the Diana Service, embodying its values and passionately advocating for the importance of community-based care.

“Julie approaches every aspect of her work with love, humour, dignity, and professionalism. She uplifts colleagues, supports families with extraordinary kindness, and consistently goes above and beyond.”

Julie reacted to winning her award.

“I was very humbled by the whole experience of receiving the award. The nomination was truly wonderful and many of my colleagues were moved to tears when it was read out. I was in a complete state of shock for the whole presentation! I will never forget receiving it. It was a very special moment in my life not just my career.

“I feel really privileged to be involved in the care of the children and their families. I always give my best and strive to make the children and families feel at ease. Sometimes I meet the children once, I endeavour to make the interaction a positive one and painless as possible. With other families who I see more regularly, the same applies, however, I become more familiar with them, and I build a solid professional relationship. I love meeting new people and experiencing many different cultures.

“My nursing colleagues are a truly amazing bunch of people. We have to deal with some very upsetting and emotional times together, but we are always there for each other no matter what. Someone is always available to have a chat with and we work so well together to provide the most caring and empathetic nursing care we can. We are a real team.”
