Advanced Nurse Practitioner Justine Crewe from Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Fran Wilson, Lead Nurse – Recruitment and Retention and colleague explains why Justine is a deserving winner,
“Justine is an exceptional nurse who makes a real difference to the lives of women with secondary breast cancer. She has a very large patient caseload of patients many of whom have complex physical and psychological needs. Her intervention has been shown to reduce hospital admission for this group of patients. She receives excellent feedback from patients, families and colleagues and is always willing to go the extra mile in order to give the best possible care.
“There are so many individual examples of cases that I am aware of, where Justine has made a massive contribution to the quality of care these patients receive. One example that springs to mind is of a current patient whose first language is not English, who has complex physical symptoms that have been difficult to manage as well as all the psychological issues associated with an incurable cancer. I know first-hand that the patient has been extremely well supported over many months by Justine who has used all of her experience and advanced nursing skills, including complex prescribing, to support this patient.
“She does all of this as a single-handed practitioner on part-time hours. I cannot commend her highly enough for this award.”
