Kim Walter, Locality Clinical Lead at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients. Clinical Lead Specialist for Palliative and End of Life Sarah Thompson explains why her colleague Kim is such a worthy winner,
“Kim always has her patients at the heart of everything she does and has been amazing at advocating for service improvements. Kim has also been pivotal in helping her local GPs to adapt to a change in the chart we use across Hertfordshire to allow the safe administration of anticipatory medications and syringe pumps for end of life care. She has helped me to develop a community leaflet explaining what to expect for end of life care in the community and also has established links with Herts Urgent Care to help promote a timely response to patients who need help out of hours.
