Celebrating Laura

Laura Elliott, mental health nurse and CAMHS Clinician at Hartlepool Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients. Colleague and Team Manager Jenny Revill explains why Laura is a worthy winner,

“Laura is excellent at continually holding a young person’s needs in mind whether she is working directly with them, with carers or with professional organisations. I have seen and heard Laura manage contentious conversations where she was able to clearly articulate a young persons needs and keep these central to the conversation. Laura is able to act autonomously when doing this but also appropriately uses team resource to reflect upon and challenge her own thought processes to help exceed satisfactory standards of care.

“Laura always makes sure that she and our service does the right thing by young people and thinks creatively to make sure that we can do this. This all requires excellent time management skills due to her being part time in the team.”

Laura reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award,

“I feel very proud and humbled to have received a Cavell Star Award, it means a lot to have my work recognised and celebrated. I am lucky enough to be part of a fantastic team and I strongly value the support and encouragement I have received. In working together to achieve shared objectives, we aim to foster a creative and innovative working environment, which supports and encourages team members to continually improve the care we deliver. I cannot emphasise how important the team are in ensuring that we are able to effectively deliver high quality services.

“I love my nursing role and the opportunity it provides in helping me to make a positive difference to the lives of the young people, and families, I work with. I could not think of another profession that would offer me the same rewarding experiences and job satisfaction!”
