Professional Development Maternity Support Worker Lisa Kahrman from George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues.
Lisa has worked at George Eliot Hospital since 2018 in the maternity department, “I absolutely love my job,” she says “and I love supporting the women and their families.”
After a few months off work due to health issues in 2021, Lisa returned and started a university course to gain a Foundation degree in Health and Social Care.
“This degree is specifically tailored for maternity,” Lisa explains “so this has given me further knowledge and skills to help me within my role. I will finish University in the Summer. I am not academic at all, but I am very determined.”
Lisa has a new role as a Band 4 Professional Development Associate. The role is also new to the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust so Lisa’s learning something new each day and she supports all of the new staff in gaining their competencies in each area.
“People have often said to me that my job must be wonderful as I cuddle babies all day. I wish it was like that!”
Colleague and Matron Maxine Morris explains why Lisa is such a worthy winner,
“Lisa is forever optimistic and positive and has stretched herself to progress to the post she is in now. She was not satisfied with being proud of her own achievements, she’ s also enthusiastic to celebrate and develop the team too. Lisa changes her work pattern to accommodate supporting others, with patience and calm. In the summer when the heat was extreme Lisa was innovative and creative in her attempts to cool the patients and staff. Nothing is ever too much trouble for her.”
Lisa reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award,
“I was totally in shock and very surprised at winning! I had been working so hard to try and get assignments completed for University so I was quite tired and a bit emotional to be honest. I feel that I do go above and beyond for not only the women we care for but also the staff. I like to think that I am very pro active in my approach and maybe quite methodical too.
“The Health Care Assistants and Maternity Support workers here at George Eliot are an inspiring team as are the midwives, matrons and managers. We are a great support network to each other. I am proud to work here and to be part of such an amazing team.”
