Community Diabetes Nurse Specialist Liz Atkins from Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues. Colleague Lesley Mills explains why Liz is such a worthy winner,
“Liz has been a valued member of our community diabetes nurse specialist team for a number of years. When the pandemic started her fellow colleague was not able to do her role so Liz stepped up and continued to maintain a community service for the whole of Warrington.
“Liz also stepped up and supported the staff vaccination programme, working on her day off to ensure that staff members where offered their vaccination as soon as possible.
“Now, in the past 8 months, we have commenced a new community diabetes service with two very new community diabetes specialist nurses. Liz has once again supported, mentored and guided the new team, whilst still doing her own work load. This award would just be a small acknowledgement and thanks for having an amazing team member.”
Liz reacted to receiving her award,
“I feel very humbled and honoured to be individually nominated for this award, and it was a huge surprise! The diabetes team and my primary care colleagues are so important to me and I am just a small part of the amazing team who has always helped and supported me so that we can provide excellent care to all our patients.”
