Lorna Pritt, Matron Infection Prevention at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients, patients’ families and colleagues.
Colleague and Deputy Associate Director of Nursing Fiona Ryder explained why Lorna and her team were so deserving of the award,
“Since the onset of the Pandemic (and for weeks before) Lorna has led her Infection Prevention team and the entire Trust workforce with compassion and even during the darkest of times, maintained a positive “can do” attitude. She has had to make complex, emotive, difficult decisions at times.
“Lorna has enabled her team and the wider teams to be responsive to changing demands, changing of colour streams for covid patients, tackling outbreak areas within our hospital wards and hospital teams and the complexities that brings; alongside also leading the work on reinstating services and the IP requirements for these in order to keep patients as safe as possible.
“I have no idea how Lorna has done it – but she has. And always with a smile and supportive manner. Lorna has worked above and beyond in all aspects. It would be a huge morale boost for her and her team to receive acknowledgment of their service and dedication, especially given we are heading into a second wave of uncertainty and unknown.”
Lorna reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award,
“The team were really pleased to be recognised especially by a colleague. It has been a very difficult year for all but especially for the infection prevention team, we have worked so hard to support our clinical and non clinical colleagues through very scary and unprecedented times.
“I am very proud of the team who have been amazing and remained positive, caring and supportive of each other throughout. To be recognised for our contribution has been so nice and really makes us feel valued.”
