Staff nurse Lydia Dyson from St Richard’s Hospice has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues. In Patient Unit Manager and colleague Jamie Yeomans explains why Lydia is such a worthy winner,
“In the 2 and a half years or so since Lydia has been a substantive member of the team, we have all seen her grow and flourish within our environment and develop into a confident, knowledgeable junior leader who colleagues admire, respect and look upon for advice and guidance.
“During the pandemic, Lydia was so versatile and flexible with her shift pattern, often moving her shifts at short notice to enable colleagues with greater commitments to be able to spend more quality time with family and loved ones, especially on occasions where bereavements have affected her friends’ lives.
“Lydia can often be counted on to volunteer to cover shifts at short notice when COVID has affected staff numbers, or when patient dependency reaches levels which require additional staffing. Lydia is an outstanding team leader of the future.”
Lydia reacted to winning her award,
“It was the most lovely surprise to be recognised as a Cavell Star Award winner for supporting my colleagues. I see my colleagues as family, every one of them is a star! Every member of the team goes above and beyond for each other every day. we support and care for each other like family. I am constantly in awe of the kindness, compassion and dedication shown by my colleagues and I feel very lucky to be surrounded by such special people.”
