Healthcare Assistant Mark Romero from Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust has won a Cavell Star Award form going above and beyond for his patients.
Colleague and Senior Sister Maria Magno explains why Mark is such a deserving winner.
“Mark takes time to have conversation with our patients. He is empathetic and he sees to it that our patients are listened to. One example was feedback from a discharged patient who said ‘I feel compelled to write about a member of your staff, Mark, who goes above and beyond the call of duty. Mark shows the same sensitivity and compassion to all patients. He has a lively and engaging manner and is always cheerful. He constantly anticipated my needs and was aware of everything that was going on. As a family we very much appreciated his help’.
Another patient stated: ‘A young man called Mark Romero, one of the best nursing experiences I have ever had and regrettably I have been hospitalised many times now. And I am a nurse myself of many many years ago.”
Mark reacted to winning his Cavell Star Award.
“I am deeply honoured to receive this Cavell Star Award, and I find myself almost at a loss for words! Having been with the NHS for less than a year, I am truly humbled by this recognition for my work caring for the elderly. This award not only motivates me but also strengthens my commitment to providing the highest level of care to our patients.”
First and foremost, I want to express my sincere gratitude to my ward manager, who believed in me from the beginning. Your trust and encouragement have driven me to strive for excellence every day. To my colleagues, thank you for your guidance, support, and camaraderie. Working alongside such a dedicated team has been invaluable, and I couldn’t have reached this point without each of you.”
