Natoya Louison, a matron from Royal London Hospital, has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues.
Her colleague Fidelia Essell-Uwagbae explained with Natoya is such a worthy winner.
“Natoya is the kind of matron whose impact is felt more than announced. Every day, she quietly keeps the workforce running smoothly in the surgical division, making sure the right people are in the right place, listening when staff are struggling, and stepping in before small problems become big ones. Her teams feel supported, valued, and confident because she knows them as people, not just names on a rota.
“Patient safety sits at the heart of everything she does. She creates an environment where staff feel safe to speak up, learn from mistakes, and constantly improve. Because of her calm leadership and attention to detail, patients receive safer, more consistent care. Just as importantly, she cares deeply about staff wellbeing. She checks in after hard shifts, celebrates successes, and leads with kindness in a demanding environment. Her leadership has built trust, reduced burnout, and strengthened team spirit.
