Matron for the infection prevention and control team at Stepping Hill Hospital, Nesta Featherstone has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues.
Helen Howard, Deputy Chief Nurse at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust explains why Nesta is a worthy winner,
“Nesta is a compassionate, strong leader who is passionate about getting it right for the patients in our care. Never has infection prevention been more important with a global pandemic and the challenge that has been presented has meant that the IP agenda has been put at the heart of the discussions.
“This has not phased Nesta at all. She has risen to the challenge and been complimented by the board of directors and all team member’s for her work ethic and support for this challenging time. Nesta has a unique ability to find a solution to a problem when it would appear that solutions are limited. She always provides the support and has worked tirelessly over this year often being contacted out of hours to support colleagues during times of significant challenge.
“Nesta has experienced personal loss during the pandemic and I know this was a really difficult time for Nesta as she continued to work at the pace required. I have been fortunate to support Nesta throughout this year and have observed her becoming a real guru for the organisation and I am immensely proud of her dedication commitment and continued efforts over this year. Nesta is a true star and deserves the recognition for her efforts.”
Nesta reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award,
“It was a really proud and emotional moment and wish my dad was here to see it. I couldn’t have managed the last year without the support and hard work from my team and corporate colleagues.
“I am still surprised and overwhelmed by the social media responses as my aim is and will continue to be ensuring the safety for our patients, staff and visitors.”
