‘I work at NBT as a post pregnancy contraception manager. But at the end of the day, I’m also a nurse.’
Congratulations Cavell Star Award winner Nicola Bailey, a Post Pregnancy Contraception Manager working on delivering a post pregnancy pilot at both North Bristol NHS Trust and UHBW funded by Bristol City Council.
She was nominated for her work on the pilot and going above and beyond to help both midwives and nurses around her.
“Working alongside both midwives and nurses I realised this is what we do and fundamentally, we can work collaboratively together and just highlight the best use of each other’s skills,” Nicola said.
She spoke about collaboration and utilising skills to enhance each other’s care and practices to ultimately provide the best care for women in maternity. She is proud of the service being offered within maternity and giving patients better access to contraception.
“I’m all about supporting informed decision making and I think that’s what we need to instil back into the patients and even the staff,” Nicola said.
As a nurse coming into maternity she said it was not easy to deliver her service right away but receiving the award has made her feel appreciated by her team.
“Getting the Cavell Star Award was lovely, it was a nice appreciation and I appreciate the girls working here too.”
