Celebrating Nida

Practice Development Nurse Nida Digma from Southmead Hospital has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues.

Divisional Director of Nursing Mike Puckey explained why Nida deserved her award,

“Nida has consistently gone above and beyond in her efforts to support the team. In May 2023, regional Stroke services were reconfigured within BNSSG. This in turn required expansion of Stroke within the hospital. Nida has been instrumental in developing and running training for our own staff ahead of the reconfiguration and in the time since. Likewise, she has been able to help support the training of partner organisations that have also been able to access her training.

“On top of this Nida has consistently gone above and beyond to develop strong team work and collaborative culture within the team, organising staff gatherings and support sessions, that recognise and celebrate the broad range of backgrounds of our stroke team. She is an outstanding member of the team and highly deserving of being celebrated.”

Nida reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award,

“I was shocked, but very honoured to be recognised by my colleagues for the work that I do. As a Practice Development Nurse I am very privileged to support the staff especially the new starters to develop their clinical skills to be able to deliver high quality care to our stroke and neurology patients. I enjoy imparting my knowledge and experience to help them develop their confidence and competence with ward specific skills.

“My Stroke and Neurology team to me is like my second family. My team gives me a better purpose in life. If I can support everyone to have an easier transition when they join us and develop them into a competent and caring nurse, then I have served my purpose.”
