Respiratory Practitioner and nurse Penny Chafer from Provide Community has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Colleague Rebecca Chaundy explains why Penny is such a deserving winner.
“Penny is highly devoted nurse, demonstrating remarkable dedication in the care of patients. When assessing and reviewing patients she combines her clinical knowledge and experience with genuine empathy, provides reassurance and advocates for everyone. Penny provides respiratory education talks to patients and the feedback from this has been excellent further supporting her remarkable skills and knowledge.
“For her team Penny offers support, mentoring and guidance showing true leadership and compassion. Penny’s experience and value to the community has been recognised by gaining membership of the Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing (Qicn). Penny is also a member of the Worshipful Company of Nurses and in her spare time Penny works as part of the outreach team mentoring students at secondary schools and presenting to students of all ages on the professional and personal benefits of pursuing a career in the nursing profession.”

Penny reacted to winning her award.
“I’m humbled and honoured to receive the Edith Cavell Star Award from the mid Essex respiratory team I have worked with over the past 3 years. It is always a privilege to look after patients in the community. I have been a nurse for 44 years and will be retiring so an enormous privilege to receive this at the end of my career.
“The life of Edith Cavell has been an inspiration to me and I am going on an Edith Cavell tour with the Worshipful Company of Nurses in the summer which I am very much looking forward to. My voluntary work includes promoting nursing as a career and visiting schools to inspire the future generation of nurses.”
