Senior Primary Care Workforce Programme Lead Sharon Lee from NHS Kent & Medway has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Colleague and Advanced Clinical Practice Nurse Suzanne Halliwell explains why Sharon is such a worthy winner,
“I have known Sharon for over 25yrs and in all this time she has enthusiastically championed various initiatives within primary care for patients and colleagues. Sharon developed and worked in partnership with GP’s and Consultants, developed streamline care pathways, participated in case conferences, developed through negotiation plans of care with patients and the teams involved, also acting as a resource for colleagues and other members of the multidisciplinary team.”
Sharon has held many senior nursing roles during her long career like Clinical Development Community Matron, National Coach South East Region, Lead Nurse for Long Term Conditions, Primary Care Workforce Facilitator, Chief Nurse within a GP Federation and currently works as a Senior Primary Care workforce programme lead.
“Sharon continues to strive to ensure every contact counts for patients,” continues Suzanne “so has been facilitating work around long term conditions awareness sessions for Social Prescribers, Care Coordinators and Mental Health Practitioner as well as working with local Diabetes Charity to support those patients with Diabetes. She continues to never shy away from challenges and has also been working with Head of Physical Health Nursing at Mental Health Trust to support Physical Health Nurses have a greater awareness of diabetes within Mental Health Teams to prevent patients with serious mental illness and diabetes from falling through the net. Sharon has continued throughout all this time to maintain her clinical skills and undertakes work at weekends in primary care.”

“I feel truly humbled as I have a career that I thoroughly enjoy and to have this recognition has been so amazing. I work with so many amazing nursing colleagues, all of whom do their very best for their patients. They are my work family, my colleagues who are always there for each other. Truly a privilege to work with so many amazing people.”
