Shirley Theobolds, an Occupational Nurse working at Ford Motor Company, Dagenham has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Colleague and Diabetes Nurse Practitioner Sue Nightingale explains why Shirley is such a worthy winner,
“Shirley is a wonderful person and nurse and she is now 80 years old and still working, She has been going on the Lourdes Pilgrimage to France for over 40 years, supporting sick and disabled pilgrims to travel by train, Jumbulance and air, giving up her free time and paying for the privilege to work with these pilgrims as part of a wider medical team.
“She also represents St Lucian Association of London since 1963. As chairperson of the women’s group. She has attended Buckingham palace as part of celebrating the Commonwealth Diaspora of the United Kingdom for her contribution to the country where she has worked tirelessly for over 52 years. She has also been the Nursing Officer in St John’s Ambulance for over 40 years. She has worked for the Ford motor company for 52 years as an Occupational Health Nurse.”
Shirley reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award,
“It is a great pleasure and honour to get the opportunity to look after the sick pilgrims. My reward is seeing the happy smiles on their faces and the blessings I receive from them. It is a real family reunion when we meet every year. Thank you for the Cavell Star Award so gratefully received in recognition of all my nursing roles in my day job and my volunteering”.
