Advanced Nurse Practitioner Sue Halliwell from White House Surgery in Kent has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her colleagues.
Senior Primary Care Workforce Programme Lead Sharon Lee explained why Sue is such a deserving winner,
“Sue’s nursing career started almost 40 years and in that time I have seen how she always strives to do her very best for all, like her colleagues. Sue is a great role model and demonstrates a person-centred approach to all aspects of her role, and has a great rapport with her colleagues and is a great support at times of need.
“Her focus on developing our future workforce is something she can be so proud of as both a mentor and a supervisor. She worked with me to set up a Clinical Supervision support network for General Practice Nurses. As an Advanced Clinical Practitioner she has become a Mentor for many trainee ACPs and provides one to one support to individuals as they transition for novice to expert.
“Nothing is too much for Sue but her ultimate goal remains the same, ensuring that the patient is front and centre to everything she does whilst valuing her colleagues. Much of the supervision she provides is done in her own time and goes unnoticed by many of her colleagues in the Practice because she doesn’t mention it, but I think she is the epitome of an inspirational nurse for so many people and I am proud to know her.”
Sue reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award,
“I was totally surprised and amazed when I was presented with this award! I felt honoured by the recognition from my collegues for the variety of work I enjoy and undertake within my team and, in my role as an ACNP. I feel though, I am a very small piece of this amazing puzzle which is all the people working in the NHS.”
