The T11 South Paediatric nurses team at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for their colleagues.
One of those colleagues was Staff Nurse Firdowsa Afdal and she explained why the team were worthy winners,
“During the pandemic, our ward changed from a paediatric to a Covid adult ward almost overnight. The team stuck together, stayed positive and continued their great work. All the doctors were so amazed by our team. They even wrote an article on the amazing care paediatric nurses and play specialists gave to adults with dementia by treating them like individuals.
“We then went from an adult Covid ward to general adult ward. Again the team were amazing and supported each other through some really hard times. Everyone who meets our team is amazed about their friendliness and support. The team is amazing at working together and making everyone feel like part of the family while maintaining a very good spirit. They are resilient and rise to challenges with ease as a team.”
