Tania Spencer, a Healthcare Assistant working for DPHS at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients.
Colleague and Healthcare Assistant Jacqueline Bridge explains why Tania deserves her recognition.
“Tania was my mentor when i joined DPHS and she was like a breath of fresh air. She’s eager for me to learn my role fully, encouraging me to take every opportunity available. Tania is an exceptional coach which does not get recognised in her current role.
“Tania is always happy and introduces herself to each patient when coming on shift helping them feel confident that there is a friendly face to help them. She is so compassionate towards her patients when they are at there most vulnerable.
“Tania will come and find me when she feels there might be a task I haven’t done yet, to go through it with me step by step, to ensure I am being taught the correct way. This is so comforting for new staff to feel this level of supported in their role, and to know that this is all to benefit good outcomes for our patients I feel Tania follows the Trust values of compassion, excellence and openness in everything she does and is a wonderful role model for all new HCAs.”
Tania reacted to winning her Cavell Star Award.
“I feel blown away and very proud that I have been recognised for what I do and am very happy that I ticked all the boxes for good patient and staff care because this is my aim for every shift that I do.
“I love communicating with the patients, listening and finding out about their needs and what makes them feel comfortable. It’s a great pleasure to see smiles on their faces and seeing them relaxed.
“My team mean a great deal to me. When we work together, we create a good team, by liaising and communicating and using a high standard of care for our patients and respecting each and everyone.”
